Roberto Firmino is the best striker in the world along with Barcelona’s Luis Suarez, according to AC Milan and Brazil legend Kaka.
Kaka has watched on with pride as a Brazilian inspired backbone at Liverpool also including Alisson and Fabinho have dominated and are almost certain to win the Premier League this season.
The 28-year-old Firmino’s work ethic is an integral part to how the league leaders play and he has contributed to the side with eight goals and seven assists this campaign.
Liverpool are having the best season a club has had in Premier League history to date with an unbeaten record over 25 games, with 24 wins and one draw.
They are currently just six wins away from being crowned champions, though that could be sooner if their nearest competition drop further points.
Kaka while impressed with Liverpool’s achievements, has warned that the current European champions could struggle to replicate this season.
Liverpool’s No 9 has not scored a Premier League goal at Anfield since March 31, a sequence that now runs to 306 days.
In normal circumstances, it would be the kind of statistic that triggers inquests and debates and lead to questions about how a man who wears such a famous jersey could keep his place.
Normal circumstances, however, do not apply to Roberto Firmino. It might be an anomaly that he has not registered at home since a towering header against Tottenham last spring but nobody has a moment’s worry about this Brazilian. If you needed evidence why, you simply had to watch the majesty of this performance.
Firmino, of course, has been ticking his tally along on the road – most recently drilling in winning strikes at Tottenham and Wolves – but in some ways he is the forward for whom goals don’t matter. There is so much more to his game that is important for Liverpool and Southampton were the latest team to fall under his spell.
He found things difficult in the first 45 minutes, as the visitors, well drilled by Ralph Hassenhutl, shut down the spaces and made life uncomfortable for the runaway league leaders to the extent that there were muffled grumbles from some corners of the stadium that things were not going to plan.
In the second half, however, a flick was switched and Firmino began painting pictures between the lines, as Klopp calls, that left Southampton’s players chasing shadows. He was elusive and cunning, the street trickster that has perfected the art of hoodwinking.
